CMC’s Common Reader program selects one book every year and offers it for free distribution across the dozens of communities CMC serves – followed by a series of discussions, author talks and conversations at CMC campuses.

This year’s common reader, internationally award winning “Go As A River,” invites us into the life of Victoria "Torie" Nash, a young woman growing up on a peach farm in rural Colorado during the mid-20th century. Set against the backdrop of the creation of the Blue Mesa Reservoir and the flooding of the town of Iola, this work of historical fiction explores themes of love, loss, resilience, and finding home in the face of much tumultuous change. The Addiction Inoculation is a comprehensive resource parents, teachers, coaches, students, and community members can use to prevent substance abuse in kids' lives. Lahey provides evidence-based strategies and practical tools that are age-appropriate and actionable to help us raise kids who will grow up healthy, happy, and addiction-free.

Join us for Author, Miriam Horn in conversation with Ben Goldfarb about her new book Homesick for a World Unknown: The Life of George B. Schaller.

Miriam Horn is a bestselling author, environmental advocate, journalist, and filmmaker. Her previous books include Rebels in White Gloves, Earth: The Sequel (coauthor), and Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman. She has produced two documentary films, with one premiering at Sundance. Before turning to books, Horn worked at the Environmental Defense Fund and the US Forest Service, and wrote for magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times. She lives in Colorado, in the South San Juan Mountains. A Monthly Guided Journaling Experience

The Journal Circle is a welcoming monthly gathering where we'll explore a different theme through guided reflection, meaningful conversation, thoughtfully curated journaling prompts, and quiet moments of personal writing. Think of it as part cozy coffee date, part creative inspiration, and part personal reset.

Whether you're brand new to journaling or have filled notebooks for years, you'll find a relaxed, supportive space to reflect, share ideas, spark meaningful conversations, and leave feeling a little more grounded, connected, and inspired.
